Orienteering

Why come to Gran Canaria to orienteer?
The orienteering scene in Gran Canaria is getting bigger all the time. There are several decent maps and some of the older maps are currently being updated. In 2010 several new sprint areas will be completed.

ActiveCanaria’s Allan Bogle has extensive orienteering coaching and course planning experience. A former member of the British Orienteering Squad, Allan spent 2 years living in Norway where he trained and competed for Halden SK. During his time in Norway Allan planned training courses on a weekly basis for some of the World’s best orienteers including Emil Wingsted and Tore Sandvik.

Maps on Gran Canaria

Our accommodation is on a newly drawn 1:5 000 sprint area (ISSOM), and is running distance from a large 1:10 000 map which was updated winter 2009. The best orienteering area is a pine forest found in the North West of the island which is 1400m above sea level. ActiveCanaria can provide planned courses on any map in Gran Canaria, and has permanent controls (red and white tape) on 2 areas.
