G-COM (Gran Canaria Orienteering Meeting)
Dear Orienteering Friends,
Gran Canaria is fast becoming the top winter destination the World’s elite orienteers. In the past 12 months the island has welcomed Øystein Kvaal Østerbø, Johan Nasman, Emil Lauri and current World Champion Matthias Müller.
So what draws them to Gran Canaria?
Well, of course the sun and the year round high temperatures is a big factor. However Gran Canaria also boasts some of Europe’s highest mapped pine forests, spectacular scenery and a rapidly growing orienteering scene.
3 of the major players in Canarian orienteering (O-riéntate, Limonium and Active Canaria) have teamed together to offer the Canary Islands’ first multi-day international orienteering race, G-com (Gran Canaria Orienteering Meeting).
As a member of the international orienteering community you are invited to take part in this unique orienteering competition.
Our goals for this competition:
• to organise the first multi-day orienteering race in the Canary Islands
• to organise the first orienteering race using electronic punching in the Canary Islands
• to introduce ourselves to the international orienteering community by attracting orienteers from as many different countries as possible
• to create a simple and friendly holiday competition that will still provide exciting and competitive orienteering racing
• and finally to create a race that people will want to return to, year after year

Gran Canaria se está convirtiendo rápidamente en el destino invernal más importante del mundo para los orientadores de élite. En los últimos 12 meses, la isla ha dado la bienvenida a Øystein Kvaal Østerbø, Nasman Johan, Lauri Emil y al actual Campeón del Mundo Matthias Müller.
¿Qué les lleva a Gran Canaria?
Bueno, por supuesto un factor importante se debe al sol y las suaves temperaturas primaverales presentes durante todo el año. Sin embargo, Gran Canaria cuenta con algunos de los mapas de pinares más altos de Europa, un paisaje espectacular y un deporte de orientación en rápido crecimiento.
Tres de los principales actores en la orientación de Canarias (O-riéntate, Limonium Canarias y Active Canaria) se han unido para ofrecer en las Islas Canarias la primera carrera internacional de orientación de varios días, el G-com (Gran Canaria Orienteering Meeting).
Como miembro de la comunidad de orientación internacional se te invita a tomar parte en esta competición de orientación única.
Nuestros objetivos para esta competición:
• organizar la primera carrera de orientación de varios días en las Islas Canarias
• organizar la primera carrera de orientación utilizando pinzas electrónicas en las Islas Canarias con Sprint, Media y Salida en masa
• introducirnos en la comunidad de orientación internacional mediante la atracción de los orientadores de diferentes países
• crear una sencilla y amigable competición de vacaciones que siga ofreciendo carreras de orientación emocionantes y competitivas
• y, finalmente, crear una carrera a la que la gente quiera regresar, año tras año
