G-COM, the final count down...

Allan - Posted on 20 January 2011

Gran Canaria's first major orienteering event is only 3 weeks away, and preparations are well on their way.

The maps are finished, the courses are planned and some of the World's best orienteers have entered.

What can you expect at G-COM?

You can expect:

  • some of Europe's highest mapped pine forests.
  • sunshine and warm temperatures.
  • a high standard of competition.
  • and a fabulous orienteering experience.

Who is coming to G-COM?

At G-COM this year you will see:

Jonas Leandersson (2nd JWOC Middle 2010, 3rd JWOC Sprint 2010)
Olle Boström (3rd JWOC Middle 2010, 2nd JWOC Relay 2010, 6th JWOC Long 2010, 1st JWOC Relay 2009, 1st JWOC Relay 2008)
Albin Ridefelt (5th JWOC Middle 2010, 1st JWOC Relay 2009)
Olex Kratov (5th WOC Middle 2010)
Karin Leonhardt (Austria)
Matthias Muller (1st WOC Sprint 2010, 3rd WOC Relay 2010)

Olex Kratov (World of O)

What are the areas like?

Day 1 is Europe's most southern orienteering map. It is a fast urban sprint area set amongst parkland and hotels.

Day 2 is Gran Canaria's best known orienteering area, Tamadaba. Tamadaba was first mapped in the 1980s and has recently been up-dated especially for G-COM.
Day 3 is one of Gran Canaria's highest orienteering areas Llanos de la Pez (1600m above sea-level). There has been an orienteering map here for many years, however it has recently been up-dated to include a very technical area of pine forest with spectacular views.
